Exams for all senior division boys continue until Wednesday, Dec. 20. There are no exams for Intermediate Division boys and we’ve asked them to be quiet in hallways and classrooms in and around exam rooms as a show of respect.

College holidays, as noted in the Upper School calendar, are generous. Please be sure your travel plans for all school breaks honour scheduled class time and exams when applicable. Classes end on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m. and resume on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 8:30 a.m.

There are four school days remaining for boys in the iDiv this term, while the Senior Division boys write exams. In a full and busy environment that is the iDiv, many experiences good, bad and in between take place. When we view every one of them through the growth lens, each yields increased self-awareness and improvement. Encourage your son to reflect on the term and identify the growth he has experienced and perhaps the growth areas yet to come.

Locker clean-out (both book and house locker) is an important and mandatory task for all students at the end of each term. Boys are required to remove all possessions from their lockers and take home all belongings. Lockers not cleaned out will be emptied by housekeeping staff and the College won’t be responsible for its contents. Having empty lockers allows housekeeping to clean and sanitize all lockers. This is a health and safety requirement. Please remind your sons to do as asked.

As we do annually, assemblies hosted several overarching messages to the boys on being aware of world/current issues and significant incidents in history in the hopes of shaping their perspectives and actions. There are often moments in time when iDiv boys aren’t able to translate these messages of goodwill and kindness into their everyday interactions with one another. Our aim as always is to work with boys and their parents to help them navigate troublesome moments in their relationships to help them to enjoy healthier and positive relationships more consistently. If your sons are having negative experiences in this regard, please encourage them to seek the assistance of their teachers, advisers, the health centre or administrators for assistance.

Looking ahead to next term, please note the following two programs for iDiv boys. On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Y8 boys will participate in a full day workshop at Branksome Hall called Collaboration Day and Y9 boys will attend the World Affairs Conference hosted here at UCC. Details on these programs will be communicated closer to the date. Additionally, please note the two parent information evenings on course selection for the next academic year. For the parents of boys currently in Y9 entering Y10 it is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. And for boys currently in Year 8 entering Y9, it’s scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. Both events will take place in the student centre.

This is my last piece for this term and on behalf of all faculty, staff and administration, I want to wish you all the very best of the holiday season and a happy new year. Be safe, rest, relax and enjoy time with family and friends.

Thanks for reading.
