Welcome to new boys and parents joining Intermediate Division, known as “iDiv,” and welcome back returning boys and parents. The energy and enthusiasm of faculty, staff and students continue to be at a very high level and this is expected to be the case for a long time to come. As always, a new school year brings hope and optimism as well as challenges, and this is the case everywhere as we all look forward to another exciting year at UCC.

Information on try-outs for fall sports teams was emailed to all boys by Athletic Director Brent Mackay earlier this week. If your son is interested in playing on a fall team he should read the email and follow the instructions. Y1 boys who don’t make a fall school team and don’t elect to play on a no-cut school team are required to be involved in the fall intramural program. If you’ve any questions, please follow up with your son’s Y1 form adviser.

The link to the Weekly Schedule is perhaps the most useful document for boys and parents in Heads Up. It provides important information on things to note and highlights of the week ahead, which you’ll find most valuable.

Curriculum Night is next Tuesday, Sept. 13. It’s an important evening on the school calendar for parents to come and meet their son’s teachers and learn about the subjects they’ll be studying this year. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a brief assembly in Laidlaw Hall led by Principal Sam McKinney, followed by an invitation to meet your son’s adviser. Then, parents follow a special version of their son’s timetable for the next two hours or so. For complete details please refer to the piece on Curriculum Night in this section of Heads Up.

Year 2’s Norval Amazing Race takes place next Thursday, Sept. 15. Please see the section below for all the details. Remember this is a mandatory program for all Y2s and parents are required to complete the parental permission forms online prior to departure. It’s sure to be an amazing day.

Looking a bit further ahead, the Y1/Y2 Parent Information Evening is scheduled on Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Student Centre. Parents are invited to hear more insights and important information from members of administration about their son’s education in the iDiv at the Upper School. Please mark your calendars so you don’t miss it.

Thank you for reading.
