Student-led conferences are by appointment. Year 1 and Year 2 boys are expected to accompany their parents and lead the review of their performance to date. Research has shown this format to have a significantly positive impact on student performance.

Student government elections continue with the election of the portfolio stewards. The finalists will have an opportunity to influence the voters in assembly and the students will cast their votes based on the criteria that guide them. This could be an interesting topic of conversation with your son which will help to shape his approach to elections and how he participates as a citizen in any political landscape.

The Year 1 Norval trip is scheduled for the week of April 18 to 22. In preparation for this outdoor adventure, there’ll be communication outlining the week, the activities, paperwork, waivers and other very important matters. This is a mandatory component in Year 1 so please mark your calendars. Look for more information in future issues of Heads Up. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Bill Elgie, director of the Norval Outdoor School or me.

The College’s annual Founder’s Day dinner is Wednesday, Feb. 10 (be sure to get your tickets soon) and the week leads into the annual mid-winter break highlighted by our Founder’s Day/Family Day long weekend from Friday. Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 15. I hope your sons have a safe and restful break from the routines of school life and come back refreshed for the push towards March break.
