It’s never easy returning to school in January after a well-deserved December vacation. No doubt there were plenty of great home-cooked meals and opportunities to re-connect with family and friends. We hope the boys got outside to get some fresh air after working so hard to prepare for exams.

The boarding program is aware of the challenge boys have adjusting to life back on campus. Three fun programs were offered on the first weekend back. On Friday, Jan. 8 a dozen boys walked up Yonge Street in the early evening to the Yonge- Eglinton Silver City Theatre. The boys watched the film Concussion. It was inspired by the work of Dr. Bennet Omalu whose research uncovered a neurological deterioration similar to Alzheimer’s Disease. Omalu named the disorder chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Many of the boys attending the movie are familiar with the risks of playing football. The movie captured the boys’ attention and provided much food for thought as they walked back to residence.

On Saturday, Dr. Morris led a trip to the St. Lawrence Market and on Sunday the student leadership team organized a three-on-three basketball tournament in the Hewitt Athletic Centre. This coming weekend a trip to Laser Quest with Bishop Strachan boarders will be a highlight; the following weekend the boys will go skiing or snowboarding at Mt. St. Louis.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and that your son is jumping back in to weekend programs to help transition back into their busy lives.
