Message from Andrew Turner, Director, Residential Life
The month of November has come and gone. The workload has been challenging for all boarders and the co-curricular involvement of many boys has been truly inspirational. The Foundation Year, IB1 and IB2 students are turning their attention toward exams. IB2 exams begin Friday, Dec. 9 and FY to IB1 students start Thursday, Dec. 15. We’re fortunate to have such wonderful resources in the Centre for Learning, and we’re also lucky to have such dedicated peer tutors working in boarding house classrooms every night of the week. Associate house advisers, Senior house advisers and residential assistants are all pitching in to help prepare the boys.
Beginning Friday night, curfew will be earlier on the weekends and we’ll also be invoking earlier weekday curfews next Monday. The senior house advisers believe earlier times to sleep will help each boy maximize his ability to be alert for studying and writing exams.
Of course we haven’t forgotten about the Year 1 and Year 2 students who aren’t writing exams in December. We’re encouraging them to get out to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather. Hope you enjoy the attached photo from this week showing Jay Kim, Omar Oosthuizen, Brian Tu, Faizan Haider and Artem Khachaturov playing soccer on the Oval; no need for indoor soccer in the bubble with sunshine and 15c outside. The Year 1 and Year 2 boarders will be going to the Norval Outdoor School for the day this Saturday. Thanks so much to nurse Anna Gryszkiewicz for accompanying the boys to and from Norval, and for assisting former residential assistant Sean Kelly, the mastermind behind a full day of activities for our boys.
