Message from Andrew Turner, director of residential life
There’s plenty of excitement in the air as winter turns to spring in the boarding community. The outdoor chairs and tables in the quadrangle between Seaton’s and Wedd’s have become a popular gathering place after school and in the early evening. Pick-up hockey games, baseballs, Frisbees and weekend barbeques in “the quad” bring a whole new atmosphere to boarding life.
Spring sports teams are in competition; many boarders will play their first UCC cricket match vs. Trinity College School in the coming week. On Friday night many boarders will ride the subway to the Rogers Centre to watch the Toronto Blue Jays play baseball against the Atlanta Braves. On Saturday, the Rao Cup competition will be the highlight as we prepare to award the trophy that recognizes the winner of friendly competition between the two boarding houses over the course of the year.
This coming week the new Prefects will be announced for Seaton’s and Wedd’s; at that time meetings of the new leadership group will meet to strategize about new activities that will make boarding even more fun in the 2015-16 school year.
Senior students are recognizing they’re in the midst of their final weeks at UCC. Exams are on the horizon and friendships that have developed over as many as four years will soon become long-distance relationships.
