Happy New Year everyone. I hope you had a wonderful, safe and restful break and  wish you all the best. Faculty returned on Monday for a terrific day of professional development highlighted by an insightful workshop on positivity and character. Our presenter, Dr. Greg Evans from the Canadian Positive Psychology Association outlined the importance of positively embracing each boy’s character traits while weaving in guidance and teaching such as constructive criticism, holding them accountable and resilience building experiences. The goal is to continually help our boys grow and develop into high-character individuals and terrific citizens. This aligns strongly with our mantra of believing in boys and helping them to make a positive difference in our world.

The boys are back and so is their energy that brings UCC to a full roar. Our opening assembly was electric as they heard a fabulous presentation from Dr. Mike Evans, a YouTube sensation with his animated messages on health. In addition to academic classes, arts, clubs, music and sports are back on track and all systems are go. Report cards are still being completed by faculty and parents should expect to receive them later this month.

Course selections for the next academic year are upon us. There are two important course information evenings scheduled for iDiv parents. Please see the piece on course selection evenings to find out more.

The Y1 civics and media half-courses will switch over soon, as boys in civics will switch to media and vice versa. The final class in each course will be on January 19 and 20 and the first class in their new course will be on January 21 and 22.

Winterfest is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 23. It marks a special day in the winter athletics schedule when just about every team will play a home game. Parents, friends and relatives are invited to support our teams. The day’s highlights are the varsity basketball and varsity hockey games, with the ever-popular food truck treats not common on our grounds. Please check the athletics schedule or ask your sons for game times. Go Blues!
