Message from Andrew Turner, director of residential life

Andrew Turner photoThe fall inter-school sports season is quickly coming to an end. Regular season schedules are complete and the playoff schedule is underway. We wish all fall sports teams best of luck in the coming days. With the end in sight, the boys need to turn their thoughts to tryouts for winter sports teams.

The following sports teams will be offering tryouts following the November long weekend:

  • Basketball
  • Hockey
  • Rowing
  • Squash
  • Swimming

Please connect with your son’s senior house adviser if you have any questions about winter team expectations, commitment or experience required to participate. Of course there will be lots of intramural sports opportunities before and after school. There will also be valuable Boarder Prefect (Rao) Cup points up for grabs in the coming months. Seaton’s and Wedd’s will continue to take part in friendly competition in the Lett Gym, the Wilder Arena and under the bubble that will soon appear on the turf Oval. This coming weekend the Rao Cup competition will feature co-ed games involving students from Bishop Strachan School. The two BSS boarding houses are teaming up for the first time with Seaton’s and Wedd’s. Action on Saturday will be taking place on Commons Field, the Lett Gym and the Old Gym.

The November long weekend begins at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6. The boarding houses will be closed Thursday after school and re-open after lunch on Monday, Nov. 10. Please have your son speak to his senior house adviser as soon as possible if he needs a place to stay on the weekend. We know the boys are busy with academic and co-curricular commitments leading up to the long weekend; no doubt many boys will use the opportunity to catch up on well-deserved rest and begin planning for the stretch through to December exams.
