JV hockey: Boarders and day boys shine in playoff vs. Lakefield

There was an exciting quarter-final hockey game on the Mara Rink on March 1. UCC jumped out to an early two-goal lead, but saw the lead evaporate by second intermission. The game was tied 2-2 going into the third; UCC finally broke the tie with two minutes remaining, on a beautiful shot by Wedd’s boarder Dom Peters.

An empty net goal sealed the 4-2 victory and advanced UCC to a semi-final birth on Friday – likely against St. Andrew’s College. The game was highlighted by excellent goaltending in the second period when UCC ran into a series of penalties. Connor Charton, Vince Manget, Jay Williams, Liam Dunn, Chris Connors, Dom Peters and a host of others played magnificent two-way hockey when the game could have gone either way during the third period. It was a great display of hockey – a wonderful opportunity to see how boarders and day students connect to produce great results in the sporting arena. Best of luck vs. SAC on Friday!
