Jazz Day and Club Blue Note on Feb. 7
Toronto’s Colleen Allen, one of Canada’s most in-demand musicians for concerts and recording sessions, will lead clinics for the Prep and Upper School jazz bands throughout the day. The acclaimed and versatile multi-instrumentalist has performed all over Canada, the United States and Europe with world-class jazz and pop artists, including Molly Johnson, David Clayton-Thomas, Holly Cole and Emilie-Claire Barlow. Allen has been a mentor and music teacher for 15 years at Humber College and is a regular adjudicator/clinician for Musicfest and the TD Jazz Education Festival in Picton, Ont.
Boys in the jazz bands, as well as boys in Years 5 through 7, will attend a concert by The Worst Pop Band Ever at 2:30 p.m. This Toronto group combines a love of jazz and indie pop with sets that twist and bend both original and cover songs.
Club Blue Note Jazz Café takes place Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Prep School’s Weston Hall. It will be transformed into a jazz café where desserts and coffee will be served. Jazz ensembles from both the Prep and Upper Schools, as well as choirs, will perform in this order:
Intermediate Jazz Ensemble
Junior Jazz Band
Jazz Choir (Prep and Upper School)
Prep Jazz Band
Senior Jazz Ensemble
Come and enjoy an evening of jazz. No tickets are required.
