January UCC Clubs Fair
Twice a year, UCC facilitates a Clubs Fair over the lunch hour to introduce boys to the wonderful club programs that meet after school and over lunch. Many UCC boarders joined clubs at the beginning of the school year. The January Fair allows students an opportunity to check out new clubs that may have been organized or to try a new club at the halfway point of the school year.
The founders of some new clubs, and the heads of some of the established clubs, are boarders. Simon Guo is co-head of the Engineering Society. This club meets weekly in the new Design Lab. No doubt boys with an interest in engineering are learning plenty while working with the likes of Simon and Luke Stevens. Amnesty International is an established club that has drawn the interest of many boarders. Bassem Sandeela is its head. As well, he’s head of The Global Issues Network; GIN is a relatively new club. These clubs meet on Monday and Tuesday during lunch. The French Language Club is headed by James Liao and Jimmy Lee. Four boarders are founding members of the recently organized Pros and Cons Club. This group meets weekly to debate local, national and international issues. The only difference between this club and the Debate Club is that Pros and Cons does not follow the recognized rules of engagement one finds in a legitimate debate tournament.
Many boarder signed up today to join these clubs and many more. A big thank you to those boarders taking on the leadership of these clubs. It is a great opportunity and a fun way to spend lunch hour or when gathering after school.
