Introducing new Prep Faculty
Kate Barrett is very happy to be a part of the Year 2 teaching team. After realizing her passion for education, Kate attended the University of Toronto for her Master of Teaching, which has given her the opportunity to teach both in Toronto as well as a First Nations community in Northern Ontario. Kate’s passion for teaching stems from her experience guiding long canoe trips lasting up to 50 days in the great outdoors. Kate says, “I am passionate about outdoor education and throughout my time at UCC, I have been able to take the kids out of the classroom and expand our learning in our outdoor environment.” Kate loves helping students reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally. She continues, “Teaching allows me to make meaningful connections with children and help guide them through their educational journey.” Kate’s favourite part of teaching is laughing with her students and learning together, “it is the community that makes it so special.” Outside of school, Kate spends her free time enjoying the great outdoors hiking, canoeing, skiing and travelling.
Emily Browne is thrilled to be joining the Senior Kindergarten teaching team! Emily earned her undergraduate and education degree at Queen’s University with a focus on math, music and early primary education. Last year, Emily gained a wealth of experience in the Junior School at Havergal College. As a teacher, she is passionate about creating a safe and caring classroom environment where students feel comfortable engaging in play-based learning. “So far this year, I have enjoyed participating in school events such as Pride Week, while also building strong relationships with students and families!” When not at UCC Emily can be found walking her dog or baking delicious treats.
