Introducing John Berney
Mr. Berney comes to UCC having taught in a number of different Toronto-area schools. Starting his career at Somerset Academy in Markham, Mr. Berney spent 19 years teaching a number of different grades as well as filling the role of Athletic Director and Vice-Principal. Over the past four years, he taught in the MYP Programme at Lynn Rose College in Mississauga.
Mr. Berney loves teaching in a number of different subject areas, especially in mathematics, English and history. When not teaching, he enjoys coaching baseball, basketball and cross-country and also loves helping with dramatic productions throughout the school. When asked, Mr. Berney loves drama productions and often calls them “…the ultimate in school co-operation and teamwork.”
When not at school, Mr. Berney enjoys spending time with his wife, Lynlee, their three children, Jorja, Jesse and Jake, and their wonderful but energetic yellow lab, Lacy.
Over the past few months, Mr. Berney has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the boys, the staff and the parents at UCC. When asked about this experience at UCC, he states, “Although it is a bit of a different year, the opportunities for growth and learning abound in all facets of the school. UCC is truly a wonderful place to be.”
