UCO student questionnaire

UCO parent questionnaire

Each year the university counsellors meet at least once with every IB1 student in order to have a preliminary discussion about his plans for post-secondary education and a career. Parents are welcome to participate in these initial meetings; subsequent appointments will be one-on-one with your son and his counsellor. Establishing a good working relationship in IB1 means students will be much better prepared for the post-secondary application process when it moves into high gear in the fall of IB2.

To this end, we ask all boys and their parents to complete the questionnaires, available as downloads above, and return them to Ms. Berndsen in the University Counselling Office by Thursday, September 11.

Interviews will begin during the fall. Appointments will be made only once both student and parent questionnaires have been received. These forms provide counsellors with the information they require to prepare for the first meeting.

It’s important to note that for the majority of boys, the student questionnaire is the next assignment for the Career Studies half-credit, carrying a value of 10 per cent towards the final mark for this compulsory course. For this reason, their questionnaire will be graded and the usual late penalties will apply.

Later in IB1, students will learn how to write a résumé and will reflect on two post-secondary representative visits.  These will be their second and third assignments for the year.  The course will conclude in IB2 with a series of assignments related directly to the post-secondary admission process.

You will note that the Foundation Year June report included a comment regarding progress to date in Career Studies.  Because this course is delivered over a student’s entire Upper School career, no final mark was reported at that time. Further comments will appear in June of IB1, then January and April of IB2. On the last of these occasions, a final grade will also appear.

If your son has any questions or concerns, he should contact his university counsellor.
