Important information for all applicants to McMaster Health Sciences

This year, the supplemental essays for McMaster Health Sciences have undergone a significant change. One of the primary innovations is a very strongly worded message about the importance of submitting essays that are entirely your own work. Applicants must sign the following declaration:

In submitting this application, I attest that I am the sole writer and editor of the statements made on this form and that all information represents my own thinking. Failure to comply with these terms is considered a breach of academic integrity and any violation of this declaration is grounds for removal from the applicant pool. Further, any individual who is offered, and accepts, admission to the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) Program but who, upon arrival at McMaster, is determined to be inconsistent with the person portrayed in this application, will be asked to withdraw from the Program.

While it is vital for all application essays to represent your own thinking and voice, in many cases, students will work with their university counsellor to refine and polish their wording before submitting a final version. In the case of this particular application, university counsellors must refrain from offering any assistance so that you can sign the declaration in good conscience. Please ensure that you do not consult with any other person (parent, teacher or peer) before writing your responses; think of this as similar to an examination in which all work must be entirely your own.
