Important caution regarding your banking information
The Canadian Association of Independent Schools has asked us to alert parents of a sophisticated scam where independent school parents are emailed to request payment to real, but fraudulent, Canadian bank accounts (CIBC, RBC, Scotia Bank, BMO). The scam involves using email address very similar to the real ones, including real staff names and letterhead.
As a cautionary measure, please be sure to do the following:
1. All payments must be made in the name of the school and should never be made to an individual person’s name.
2. Ignore any messages that tell you UCC has changed its banking information. (We have no plans to do so.)
3. If anyone (including from a UCC email address) contacts you, stating the banking information has changed, please inform Patti MacNicol immediately at firstname.lastname@example.org
