Next Steps for your EE Research Plan


IB1 students have submitted their Extended Essay proposals via the dropbox in Haiku. Teacher-librarian Mari Roughneen has posted individual feedback on each student proposal in Haiku. Students have been instructed to review this feedback and to communicate with their EE supervisor, and to consider any appropriate next steps around refining their focus or research question, locating additional sources for research, etc. They’ve also been given the documents attached here as resources to guide the next phase of their work.

Students should currently be working on answering their research question: identify scholarly sources, read, research, gather data related to the research question, design their experiment (draft procedure, create list of materials, meet with lab supervisors), plan their fieldwork, etc. They’ve been advised to connect with Ms. Roughneen in the library, Ms. McLean in the Senior Division Centre for Learning and/or their EE supervisor if they need any additional support at this time.

What’s next after the March break? Students must attend the mandatory meeting for their subject group on Wednesday, March 30 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Location and other details will be circulated to students via email and the Haiku site for Extended Essay. The purpose of this meeting is to guide students on subject-specific requirements for the EE and how to prepare for an effective EE week in April.
