Holiday travel guidance
With the November long weekend taking place from November 12–15 (last day of classes is Thursday, Nov. 11, returning on Tuesday, Nov. 16), please ensure you are aware of the latest travel guidance issued by the Government of Canada regarding international travel. Please note that, according to this guidance, unvaccinated youth ages 12 to 17 years who are returning to Canada would not qualify for exemption and would be subject to quarantine.
Specific guidance relating to unvaccinated youth under 12 years of age states that those returning to Canada cannot attend school for 14 days. In addition, the guidance restricts your child for the next 14 days from the following:
- Attending a setting where they may have contact with vulnerable people (e.g. long-term care facility), including with people who are immune-compromised, regardless of that person’s vaccination status or public health measures in place
- Attending school, camp or daycare
- Travelling on crowded public transportation that does not ensure physical distancing and masking (e.g. crowded subway)
- Attending large, crowded settings, indoors or outdoors, such as an amusement park or sporting event
A remote synchronous learning circumstance will not be provided for students who are excluded from school due to having travelled. Rather, the student may have some opportunity for independent work completed at home, either provided before travel or posted on SeeSaw or Bluenet.
We trust that families will follow this guidance and make prudent decisions with respect to any travel.
