Head of Black History Club Samar Carmack

Samar Carmack is a Year 11 boarding student from Chicago. He is the current Head of the Black History Club at UCC. Last term he had an opportunity to speak at a Preparatory School assembly.

The third Monday in January is a national holiday in the U.S., recognizing Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. MLK Day recognizes his work as chief spokesperson for non-violent activism in the civil rights movement, which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for a federal holiday began soon after King was assassinated in 1968. The holiday was not officially recognized by all 50 states until 2000. Thank you Samar for taking the time to speak to the boys at the Prep about activism.
