Form 5 PYP Exhibition update
Form 5 is the last year of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) at UCC. As such, Form 5 students engage in the PYP Exhibition, a collaborative, student-directed, research-based, action-oriented culminating activity of the programme. Students lead their own inquiry in the spring term. We’ll celebrate the completion of the PYP Exhibition with our community, including parents, on Friday, May 6. More information will be forthcoming in the new year.
Form 5 boys have begun talking about the PYP Exhibition and we’re sure some conversations have continued at home. We’re encouraging boys to take an interest in current events. In a recent exhibition period we talked about current news events and discussed the stories under the headings of “interesting,” i.e. an interesting news item, and “issues,” i.e. a news item that is or connects to a local or global issue.
The boys responded to the provocations “Kids today don’t care about anything” and “Kids today don’t care about issues” this week. The boys began considering issues that they care about and started a personal log of possible exhibition topics that they care about or perhaps to which they have some connection. There were many rich conversations in every Form 5 class.
We look forward to hosting parents in the new year at an exhibition information session. In the meantime, should you have any questions about the PYP Exhibition, please don’t hesitate to contact PYP coordinator Dianne Jojic.
