Establishing Your Financial Profile for US Colleges

If you are applying to US colleges, you should check the individual school websites to ensure that you understand the deadlines for submitting financial documents. In order to qualify for an I-20 visa, international students must complete a Certification of Finances that discloses their families’ financial circumstances and indicates how they plan to pay for their education.

Some US colleges require these documents at the time of application; some require them at the same time as an application for financial aid; other schools ask for them only once a student has received an offer of admission. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the deadline for each college to which you are applying.

Your parents will need to fill out a number of forms, supply tax information, get statements of earnings from their employers and a statement from their bank. This is not a process that can be left to the last minute!
