Early consideration deadlines for University of Toronto engineering or commerce
Students who wish to have their application for engineering or commerce programs at the University of Toronto reviewed for possible early admission offers in February or March must meet earlier deadlines:
Engineering: The OUAC application must be submitted by December 1; the Online Student Profile must be submitted by December 17. For students wishing consideration for later rounds of admission offers, the OUAC application must be submitted by January 15 and the supplemental materials by February 1.
The Online Student Profile for engineering includes the following sections:
- Engineering program selection
- Educational timeline for high school
- Academic profile (secondary school courses)
- Indication of interest in the PEY Co-op program
- Extracurricular involvement
- Personal profile: three randomly selected questions (one written and two video); watch the personal profile video for tips and sample questions
- Application fee
Once students have applied on OUAC to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Toronto, they will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the required supplemental application. Click here for a helpful overview.
In the Academic Profile section, go to Education System and add “International Baccalaureate.” In the section for IB courses, there is a drop-down menu for Year 1 and Year 2 of the program. You only need to list your pre-requisite subjects. For both Year 1 and Year 2, choose predicted from the drop-down and for Year 1, select your June Year 11 grades. For Year 2, choose your most recent grade (either June Year 11 or January Year 12, depending on when you are submitting the application). Do not include plus/minus signs. The completion date will be May 2020 for both Year 1 and Year 2.
The university will receive your Ontario grades through OUAC so you do not need to list them. If you took a pre-requisite course outside of Ontario, please contact your counsellor or Ms. Berndsen for instructions on how to list. Please contact Ms. Berndsen for a transcript to upload to your portal.
In the Other Information section, you should insert the following text under Special Circumstances: All IB diploma courses at Upper Canada College are taught over the final two years of a five-year high school program. Interim grades for the IB diploma program are reported in June of Year 11 and again in January and April of Year 12. Evaluation is cumulative over the two years of the diploma program.
It is important to recognize that the supplement requires students to answer three randomly generated questions. Two of these must be answered orally through an uploaded video. The other problem-solving question requires an essay answer of no more than 250 words, written online within a 10-minute period.
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact your university counselor.
Commerce: The OUAC application should be submitted by November 25 in order to ensure that the supplemental application can be submitted by noon December 12 for early consideration. For students wishing consideration for later rounds of admission offers, the OUAC application must be submitted by January 15 and the supplemental materials by February 1.
The supplemental application for commerce consists of both written essays and a video component.
