Digital social action program for students in Years 7 and 8
CANVAS is an organization that offers arts action programs that focus on gender equity, consent and LGBTQS+ inclusion. They run programs in a variety of settings and have a formal partnership with both the Toronto District School Board and the Peel District School Board, where they have delivered ongoing workshops since 2016.
During this time of school closures, CANVAS is running a virtual arts based connection and empathy program. It is an hour long weekly group looking at inclusion, empathy and identity. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of art forms and have access to a Google Classroom for discussion questions, at-home project curricula, and video suggestions for at-home learning. As well, everyone will have the chance to share their art with their peers and engage in an online community. The program will begin Monday April 13 and run for eight weeks. Through generous support by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, it is free for Year 7 and 8 students.
