Deadline and details for new Year 10 exchange program
Dear Year 9 families,
UCC is excited to launch an international student exchange program for Year 10 students starting in 2020-2021.
In this inaugural year of the program, we have two Australian partner schools confirmed:
Partner School: St. Peters College
Saint Peter’s College is an independent boys’ school in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. St Peter’s College is a day and boarding school – www.stpeters.sa.edu.au
Partner School: Knox Grammar School
Knox Grammar School is an independent United Church day and boarding school for boys, located in Wahroonga, New South Wales, an Upper North Shore suburb of Sydney, Australia – www.knox.nsw.edu.au
Please find more detailed information in the application package at UCC International student exchange application. Applications can be completed now by Year 9 students and should be submitted to Linda Carvalho, Assistant to the Dean of Student Life and Wellbeing, by Feb. 21, 2020.
International Exchanges support both the UCC and the IB mission statements. By staying in a different country for an extended period of time, our boys can better understand and appreciate different cultures and people, gaining a deeper understanding of themselves and those around them. Participating in International Exchanges provides boys with transformational learning experiences as they stay with host families, attend a new school, engage with a different community and in some situations, be exposed to a new language. The Exchange experience provides an opportunity to gain exposure to new ideas, broaden perspectives, increase sensitivity to cultural differences, and develop a deepened awareness of shared human values and interests.
How it works:
If accepted into the program, we will work with our partner schools to find a suitable matching student. If a match is found, the partner school’s student would come to Toronto for four to eight weeks in Sept.-Oct. 2020 and the UCC student and his family would host him in their home. In turn, the UCC student would travel to the partner school for four to eight weeks in Feb.-March 2021, and be hosted by the matched student and his family.
In order to participate in the international student exchange program, UCC students must:
- Be in Year 10 during the academic year of the exchange;
- Be successfully accepted into the exchange program (application letter & interview);
- Be in good academic standing. They will miss six to eight weeks of school at UCC. There can be no recent record of academic or conduct, concern or probation;
- Be matched with a suitable exchange partner by UCC and our partner school.
