“Connecting School with Home” parent workshop on Nov. 18

UCC is delighted to have parenting expert Jennifer Kolari M.S.W., R.S.W. as our keynote presenter at this Saturday’s parent workshop: “Connecting School with Home.”

Kolari is a child and family therapist and founder of Connected Parenting. She’s one of the nation’s leading parenting experts and author of Connected Parenting: How To Raise A Great Kid (Penguin Group USA and Penguin Canada, 2009) and You’re Ruining My Life! (But Not Really), Surviving the Teenage Years with Connected Parenting (Penguin Canada, 2011).

Kolari’s entertaining workshops and insightful strategies, shared with warmth and humour, make her a highly sought-after speaker with schools, corporations and agencies throughout North America. She’s been helping children, teens and families get connected for more than 20 years.

Following her keynote presentation, Kolari will lead one of the morning breakout sessions that will be an extension of the keynote address. Filled with comedy, moving stories and practical strategies that really work, these workshops will show parents how to understand and reduce their child’s anxiety, manage difficult behaviours, and increase their child’s self-esteem using the “Connected Parenting” model.

During this workshop, parents will be armed with new ways to attune to their child’s feelings. They’ll learn how to effectively use empathy to reinforce their relationship with their children, develop effective strategies to reduce anxiety, avoid power struggles and build their child’s emotional resilience. The importance of balancing empathy with limit-setting will be emphasized. These techniques will inspire you to be the best parent you can be while helping your children be the best that they can be.

Here’s the schedule for the day:

8:30 to 9 a.m. Continental breakfast in the Bitove Lounge
