Community service leaders participate in Tokens 4 Change

Some of our Form 5, 6 and 7 community service leaders took part in Tokens 4 Change, a fundraiser and awareness-raiser for Youth Without Shelter last Friday, Feb. 6. YWS is Etobicoke’s singular emergency residence anTokens for Change 2015d referral agency serving homeless youth aged 16 to 24. YWS is committed to stepping far beyond the basics of food and beds. After having had a lunch workshop in late January about youth homelessness in Toronto, the boys were excited to do what they could to help out.

The day of the event, the boys, their parents and fellow teachers Chris Atkinson, Martha Boyce and Jill Stewart rose early to meet at our designated TTC station. Filled with excitement, donning their “Tokens 4 Change” t-shirts, pamphlets and collection tubs in hand, the boys engaged politely and meaningfully with the commuters. Four hours later, a little tired and not so excited at the prospect of heading back to school, they were filled with a sense of pride in what they’d accomplished.
