PPO community service drive thank-you
The Prep School hosted its annual fall community service drive between Nov. 19 and 21. The school collected gently used sports equipment and winter gear from our amazing families at the Prep to help raise house points and gain pride in helping those less fortunate.
The spirited boys from the Blue Army Cadets helped raise awareness with their signs and good cheer at morning drop-off. The incredible boys from community service opened doors and gathered the generous donations and placed them in the respective house-coloured bins. Parent volunteers and Prep families helped sort the bounty for the two recipient Horizons schools we’re supporting this fall.
UCC’s Horizons school program is a community service initiative that provides a unique partnership which connects UCC with several publicly funded inner-city schools. This fall drive supported Sprucecourt Public School (K-6) and GB Little School (K-8). We have a partnership with Sprucecourt, as it sends two classes to our school every Thursday for math tutoring and an art program with our Upper School boys. GB Little School comes to UCC on Wednesdays at lunch for a math program with Upper School boys.
Our community service boys and the Blue Cadets will load the donations on to the buses when the children from Sprucecourt and GB Little School visit UCC for their weekly programs. Our warm-hearted boys will see the smiles on the children’s faces that their school helped.
This year’s colour house competition winner was green. Second place went to gold and third place to red. Thank you to the UCC Prep families for helping to bring a smile to our Horizons school families and children. We look forward to having a large bounty again for our spring community service drive.
