Current boarders witnessed the culmination of the UCC boarding capital campaign that will strengthen weekend programs, heighten access to financial assistance and improve the facility for generations of future boarders, on Monday, May 4.

One of the most interesting stories is related to trees that stood on the grounds for generations. Steve Thuringer, executive director of  facilities, had the elm trees that once stood tall in the quadrangle along with wood from Laidlaw Hall pews engineered into the first floor hallways and common room floors in Seaton’s and Wedd’s. New floors are but one example of the changes the class of 2015 witnessed, thanks to the generosity of many. There are many more examples of wonderful changes to the boarding houses that are always on display for interested members of the UCC community.

The boarders would like to thank co-chairs Blake Hutcheson (UCC ’80) and Martin Abell (UCC’81) for taking the reins of the most successful boarding campaign ever. Generations of future boarders will reap the benefits of money raised to support great facilities, access to weekend programs and financial assistance awards that will continue to bring mission-appropriate boarders to campus.

Special thanks goes to Sebastian Hubbard (IB1 Seaton’s) for introducing Mr. Hutcheson and Mr. Abell at Monday morning assembly and to the UCC advancement and communications teams for orchestrating an excellent breakfast and wonderful assembly.
