King Lear runs from Feb. 21 to 24

Lear-Y18-Theatre-Lear-Edmond-2-12X18Hard on the heels of The Addams Family musical, it’s time for the UCC/The Bishop Strachan School production of William Shakespeare’s King Lear.

The play takes place at 7:30 p.m. from Wednesday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 24 in UCC’s David Chu Theatre. Tickets are $20. Watch for the film trailer.

The cast has been working on the show since September under the direction of Heather Crawford, and the King Lear crew has been setting all aspects of technical design in place. Terry Denstedt designed and built the set and all of the set components. Students have been fearless in their efforts to stage Shakespeare’s monster of a tragedy, as the script is a monumental challenge.

The tragedy explores fractures within two families and the state as a whole. Carnage ensues as fissures deepen. The production also honours the play’s stage requirements. Stage combat is under the tutelage of Simon Fon, and Shakespeare’s fights are glorious.

Please contact either Heather Crawford or Dale Churchward if you have any questions.
