Class of 2021 | The Blues Degree
Last year when the school shut down in March, we put our heads together to think of ways we could attempt to compensate for some of the learning and experiences that our grads of 2020 were losing. Working with students, parents and employees, we came up with The Blues Degree, a program of enrichment experiences for soon-to-be grads to help set them up for their next chapter in life. Graduates of 2020 really loved the program and said they got a ton out of the advice and experiences they had.
We are delighted to share the rollout of The Blues Degree for the Class of 2021. Launching on Monday, May 3 this program is exclusively for the Leaving Class students to provide them with opportunities for further learning, connection with UCC alumni, as well as to have some fun together through student-led activities. All sessions are organized around themes as follows:
All sessions are categorized around key themes:
Monday – Learn How to Life: Designed to prepare for life beyond UCC, programming includes managing and making the most of your money as you leave home from an expert author, resumé writing and interview skills from a career coach and more.
Tuesday – Something New: On Tuesdays get a chance to try something new. Audit a university course, create something beautiful in this dark time under the expert guidance of Mr. Bauld and Mr. Crawford, learn to code and more.
Wednesday – First Year Survival Guide: Recent alumni will share their post-UCC experiences, answer your questions and offer valuable tips on what to expect from university life. Topics include social transitions, academic transitions and getting involved in co-curricular life on campus.
Thursday Speaker Series: This will feature engaging and highly motivational leaders and innovators with diverse stories to learn from.
Fridays Are For the Grads: Students will join their fellow grads for student-led trivia games, showcases and some surprise activities.
All sessions start at 11 a.m. each day and run 60 – 90 minutes.
Details of and links to all sessions will be shared through the calendar feature and all members of the leaving class will be invited. Invitations and specific details will come out next week.
While The Blues Degree is fully voluntary and no grades are given, we are strongly encouraging students to sign up for these sessions. One thing we hear alum say all the time is that their only regret is not taking advantage of all UCC has to offer. Here’s one more thing your son can take advantage of and we really hope he does. It has been a tremendously challenging year for this leaving class, but they have handled it with grit and grace and we are all so proud of them.
