Campus visits and open houses in Canada

With long weekends in October and November, many students are planning university visits. This is one of the most helpful ways to decide which school will be right for you. You should never find yourself accepting an offer from a university you have not seen. All members of the Leaving Class will have visited at least one campus in order to complete the most recent Career Studies assignment. We encourage students to explore a few more universities of interest over the next few months.

During your visit, you should try to sit in on classes, talk to students, and tour residences, dining halls, libraries, student lounge areas, athletic facilities, etc. Look at student newspapers and bulletin boards in order to get an idea of the range of activities available to students. Most universities, if given sufficient notice, will arrange for you to meet an adviser who will answer your questions and discuss your proposed program. Visiting friends at university to attend events such as homecoming will provide you with some information, but formal university tours provide a much more balanced picture.

Arranging a visit/tour is easy using the Internet: simply go to the website for the university of interest and look under “Prospective or future students” or “Visitors” for instructions on how to book a tour. Information is also available on the eInfo website. Book early, as tours fill up quickly.
