Boarders contribute to CISAA football championship victory
UCC hosted St. Michael’s College to determine the 2014 Canadian Independent School Athletic Association football championship on Wednesday, Nov. 5. It was a great afternoon for football – no rain, not too cold and no wind; perfect conditions for the UCC passing game. Zach Quiviger and Aidan Power shared the quarterback duties and both brought an element to the offense that kept St. Mike’s defenders off guard.
The highlight of the game for football purists might have been a couple of unbelievable goal line stands in the third quarter by UCC. Philippe Archambault was outstanding in his middle linebacker position, a true leader on a defensive unit that turned away several goal line attempts.
The UCC receivers, led by LC Hebert and Clayton Jeffrey, made some excellent catches and even more dazzling runs after the catch. Congratulations to all boarders that contributed to a fun experience for every football fan that watched from the sidelines during the season. A special mention goes to the boarding seniors who’ve contributed to back-to-back championships. Ali Haydaroglu, LC Hebert, Philippe Archambault and Peter Kim made outstanding contributions on the field and demonstrated to all boarders that it’s possible to manage a rigorous academic program while devoting significant time to practising and playing varsity football. Can’t wait until next season!
