Blues Degree | Program for Week 2

Dear Year 12 parents,

Please see below the offerings for the Blues Degree this coming week. We have had fairly low turnout, so if your son is not busy, please encourage him to join in these enrichment sessions.

Monday | Dollars and Sense!
Author and Harvard Business School grad Lucia Menzer will help students plan and execute a budget as they transition to life on their own. She’ll run through what costs to expect and how they can spend what they need while saving and setting themselves up for financial success in the long run.

Tuesday | Take Your Pick: Learn Something New
Pick one of the following awesome options offered by our incredibly talented UCC faculty and Alum.

  • NEW SESSIONYour UCC Story with Ms. Mac and Ms. Spellman: Join the incomparable Ms. Mac and our incredible archivist, Ms. Spellman, as they share the power of personal story. UCC is built on the stories of people just like you and maybe a little bit not like you. Ms. Spellman will help you see how your unique story fits in with the thousands of others that were created in these halls and Ms. Mac will help you craft your story — an archive of your life — so that it stays with you as you leave the grounds of UCC and find your way in different locales.
  • Learn to Code with Mr. Miskew: Building on last week’s knowledge but newcomers can still join to learn this essential skill.
  • A Thing of Beauty with Mr. Crawford and Mr. Bauld: Expert teachers will help your son create something beautiful by combining film and poetry. Is there a better antidote in these times than immersing yourself in creating something of beauty? Our poet laureate and film master will support students as they create something beautiful for yourself or to share with the world.
  • Cooking Survival Guide with Ms. Wells: Your son will learn breakfast lunch and dinner — healthy and simple and delicious. Save your Uber Eats card charges and encourage him to join Ms. Wells. Check here for ingredients for each week.
  • Spreadsheets for the Win! With VP Advancement, Mr. Dellandrea: Building on last week’s knowledge of life- and career-saving spreadsheet tips. Students can join for the first time this week, too. You really need to know how to do this stuff!
  • Identity and Agency: Learning as being with Ms. Gauthier and Ms. Khalanski. This mini-course is a university-style course that will show your son what kinds of deep and critical conversations he will engage in in university.

Wednesday | Uni 101 Social Transitions
Students will learn from recent grads about the social transitions to university in a COVID and non-COVID world. Students from various universities will share their own transitions and give tips for a happy university experience.

Thursday | Speaker Series
Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro will share his journey and his salient advice on how to follow your dreams to do a job you love to ensure you live a full life.

Friday | Fridays are for the Grads:
Join UCC’s Year 12 Reps and the BoS as they host connection games with their peers in the Class of 2021.
