Alpha Club in UCC boarding
Sebastian Hubbard wrote the following overview about a new club he helped initiate for boarding students. This is one of several “beyond the school curriculum” initiatives that can periodically appear when you bring students from around the world to live together under one roof. Thanks to Sebastian for getting the club going and for baking some of the club snacks in Mr. and Mrs. Evans kitchen.
Alpha is a course that ran for 10 weeks and the purpose was to engage the guys in some of life’s big questions. We met on Tuesday night for about an hour or so. During the sessions we’d have different snacks, ranging from pancakes to nachos, and a variety of discussion topics. Most evenings there would be between seven to 10 guys. Many would come every week, with a few guys coming out just once or twice. The discussion was really powerful and meaningful. There were moments of heated debate but overall it was very significant and successful.
