Accessing the Haiku Learning Management System
We’ll be continuing to use the Haiku Learning Management System (recently purchased by PowerSchool) in the Middle Division at the Prep this year to help our students stay organized and to share course information such as the course outline and daily homework. The Prep and Upper Schools have been using Haiku in recent years with great success.
If you haven’t already, we suggest you sit down with your son and have him show you Haiku/PowerSchool. He’ll be able to show you what he knows about the system as it’s introduced through the first weeks of the school year. Ask him where he can find his homework and other course information.
In the Middle Division, all parents of Form 6 and 7 students have access to their son’s courses with their own login and password. We hope this access will facilitate conversations with your son about keeping himself on track and organized, especially as the school year and extracurricular activities get busy. As a parent, your view of the courses will be slightly different from your son’s view. You’ll be able to see any content that’s posted by the teachers (homework, course outlines, etc.), but won’t be able to see any student interactions (discussions, polls, assessments, etc.)
For our Form 7 students, we’ll be removing parent access in January to encourage the boys to become more independent and manage their workload on their own. Although you’ll no longer have access to their digital courses through your own log-in, please continue to have conversations with your son about their homework and deadlines. In this way, we hope to prepare the boys for independently managing their workload at the Upper School next year.
Parents new to the Middle Division will receive an email from Sarah Barclay (the Middle Division ICT integrator) with their log-in ID and password. Parents whose sons were in the Middle Division last year may continue to access Haiku/PowerSchool as they’ve done in the past.
