Welcome to Heads Up, your one-stop source for news about your son’s upcoming activities and events.

Form placement for next year

In an effort to be transparent and level-set expectations, we’re writing to inform you about our upcoming form placement work for the 2017-2018 school year.

In creating forms for the upcoming academic year, we strive to create balance first, and also best serve individual boys’ needs, in order to create the best learning units at each grade level (cohort grouping). Our first priority is to honour the boy’s previous teachers’ input. They know the boys the best within the school context and their professional judgement is what guides us.

Some of the factors we work to balance include academic strengths, co-curricular strengths, French placement (in Y5-Y7), leadership strengths, academic and social strengths and needs, and student dynamics.

We don’t attempt to place boys with friends. This isn’t a priority as boys have the capacity to make new friends, and in fact, mixing boys up in terms of friendships avoids cliques and builds strength within the cohort. Besides, true friendships transcend the home form as they spend time together at recess, lunch, phys ed and games, and certain program times. Furthermore, having old friends in the form is not often educationally advantageous.

Requests for specific teachers aren’t invited. If there are circumstances we may not be aware of in terms of the learning environment that best serves your son, please feel free to speak with your son’s current teacher so they can factor that into their input. Alternatively, our own doors are open to you for a conversation.

Sincerely,
Tom and Naheed
